Abstract
Objective To know the early screening and treatment of congenital hypothyroidism(CH) in Huaihua,to explore the proper and suitable management measures for CH children in the undeveloped areas, and to improve the qualities of people who were born in this district. Methods Thirty children with CH who was under treatment were tracked and followed-up.The data of physical development, intelligence development, bone age,and the thyroid function in the last physical examination were summarized and analyzed. Results Among the 33 CH children,18 children were received standardized treatment, only accounting for 54.5%.But with the development of economy, the standardized treatment was increased year by year, and the difference was statistically significant.Through the evaluation, the physical development of 30 CH children was all in the normal range.Only one child's bone age lay over two years behind than those of other children.Though no mental retardation occurred in the 33 children,as compared with the children in other areas, they all had common symptoms of poor adaptability which was related to low compliance. Therefore in order to improve the treatment compliance,we put forward four management measures. Conclusions Improvement of the neonatal screening rate through different ways and measures, early detection, early diagnosis and treatment of CH children are the four management measures. We should avoid mental retardation and other damage for children, and improve the quality of the population.
