Abstract
Objective To study fragile histidine triad (FHIT) protein expression level in gastric carcinoma, and to explore the relationship between FHIT and clinical pathological indicators of gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression levels of FHIT in 60 cases of gastric cancer and matched paracancerous tissues were analyzed by immunohistochemistry technique. Results The expression rates of FHIT in gastric cancer and paracancerous tissues were 75% and 100%, respectively. The expression of FHIT was significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer tissues compared with that in paracanerous tissues (P 0.05 ). The expression rates of FHIT in highly, moderatedly and poorly differentiated groups were 80%(16/20)、70%(14/20) and 75(15/20), respectively. The expression rates of FHIT in early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer were 83.33 %(15/18) and 71.43 %(30/42), respectively. The expression rate of FHIT in early gastric cancer without lymph nodes metastases was 81.82 %(18/22) and the expression rate of FHIT in gastric cancer with lymph nodes metastases was 71.05 %(27/38). FHIT expression rates were not significantly different in different groups (P 0.05 ). Conclusion The expression of FHIT was significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer tissues compared with that in paracanerous tissues. The expression levels of FHIT were not related to histological grade, histopathological stage and lymph nodes metastases.
