Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of e- cadherin and MMP- 9 in Gastric carcinoma and to analyze the relationship between them and tumor Clinicopathological features as well as the role of E- cadherin and MMP- 9 in the metastasis and invasion. Methods Immunohisto chemistry staining( S- Pmethod) was used to detect the expression of E- cadherin and MMP-9 in 30 cases of gastric cancer and 25 cases of normal gastric mucosa. Results The positive expression rate of E- cadherin in gastric cancer, and normal tissues was 33. 33%( 10 /30) and 100%( 25 /25). The positive expression rate of MMP- 9 in gastric cancer and normal tissues was 76. 7%( 23 /30) and 0. 00%( 0 /25). E- cadherin expression was negatively correlated with MMP- 9. Conclusion The expression of E- cadherin and MMP- 9 are closely correlated with the biological behavior of gastric carcinoma. They may play a crucial role in gastric cancer invasion and metastasis. E- cadherin and MMP- 9 may be helpful to evaluate the capability of the tumor invasion and diversion of gastric carcinoma.
