Abstract
Conventional geometric models couldn't meet the needs of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) of products with complex shape. In order to solve this problem, a point-based geometric model applied to CAD/CAM was put forward. The definition of point-based geometric model and its application process of CAD/CAM were presented. The geometric properties, CAD method, CAM method, and CAD/ CAM system development method of this model were studied. The CAD/CAM application of shoe last showed that point-based geometric model was superior to conventional geometric models, and could realize CAD/CAM in some special products.
