Abstract

Based on the disadvantages of traditional landfills, bioreactor landfill and its mechanisms of removal and attenuation to pollutants within refuse and leachate are introduced. The bioreactor landfills have such advantages as reducing the pollution intensity of leachate, expanding the available capacity of landfill, enhancing the production of gas, accelerating the stabilization of landfill, lowering the disposal cost of waste. The principles of how to design and operate a bioreactor landfill are summarized and the development tendency of bioreactor landfill is brought forward.
