Abstract

Objective:To introduce the clinical features of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis(PAP) and the method of whole lung lavage under general anesthesia. Methods:A case was reported and related literature was reviewed. Results:Chest CT screen and PAS positive in bronchial alveolar lavage were two major characteristics for the diagnosis of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.A PAP patient had been operated for a whole lung lavage under general anesthesia. After treatment, the patient′s PaO_2 was increased from 46 mm Hg to 76 mm Hg and DLco from 26.8% to 59.9%.Conclusions:At the present time, whole lung lavage under general anesthesia is a safe and an effective method to treat the patient with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
