Oversimplification and Entanglement of Ideological Enlightenment,National Identification and Reflection on Culture——On the Enlightenment Discourse in the Literature from Late Qing Dynasty to the May 4th Movement

The ideological enlightenment,national identification and reflection on culture crises-crossed the human history,and the thinkers in different ages thus formed their heterogeneous logic.In the late Qing Dynasty,Liang Qichao advocated the idea about New Novelwhich led the enlightenment directly to the national identification of saving China from being conquered.Then,in the early years after the founding of the republic of China,the enlightenment discourse of the novels/short stories about lovebirds written typically by Xu Zhenya pointed toward a reflection on the national identification in respect to culture.On the other hand,although the enlightenment discourse of Chen Duxiu,Lu Xun and others before and after the May 4th Movement originated from the enlightenment and then pointed toward the reflections on China's traditional culture with the intention for restructuring,the reflections were not profound.As a result,the national identification therefore involved in political reflections.All of these meant that the understanding of national identification and ideological enlightenment were oversimplified.
