Abstract

Objective:To clarify expression of vascular endothelial growth factor C(VEGF-C) and its relationship with lymph node metastasis in 88 patients with advanced gastric carcinoma.Methods:Eighty-eight patients with advanced gastric carcinoma were treated as gastrectomy in Affiliated Hospital Jiangsu University, from January 2004 to December 2004.Ten specimens of normal gastric mucosa were used as control group. The expression of VEGF-C protein in advanced gastric carcinoma tissues obtained from 88 patients and in normal gastric tissues obtained from 10 health cases was detected by immunohistochemistry.Results:VEGF-C protein were expressed in the positive and negative region lymphnode metastasis about 68% and 31.6% respectively. The VEGF-C positive rates in gastric carcinoma were much higher than that of control group(P0.05).There was a significant correlation between the expression of VEGF-C and lymph node metastasis(P0.01).Logistic regression analysis also show relationship of VEGF-C expression in gastric carcinoma with lymph node metastasis(Standard Estimate=0.788 3,P0.000 1).Conclusion:The expression of VEGF-C was closely related to lymph node metastasis of advanced gastric carcinoma. The expression positive rate of VEGF-C was high in advanced gastric carcinoma.
