Abstract

The friction behaviors of three kinds of C/C composites with different matrix carbon content have been investigated with 40Cr steel coated by Cr as couple and using M2000 wear tester. The results show that under the same load, the friction coefficient value of the composites with smooth lamination(SL)pyrocarbon matrix is almost the lowest, and the change extent of the friction coefficient with the increase in loads is almost the lowest, too, which changes between 0.117 and 0.105;but the friction coefficient value and the change extent of the composites with resin carbon(RC)are the largest, which changes between 0.156 and 0.123;the friction coefficient of the composite, which has the SL with a mass fraction of 48.9% and the RC with a mass fraction of 20.2%,changes between 0.120△0.110.The composite with SL/RC has the lowest bulk wear loss among the three kinds of composites, which is between 0.191 mm3 and 0.620 mm3.With the prolonging in test time, the friction coefficients of the composite with SL or SL/RC remain stable, while that of the composite with RC has the largest increasing extent. The SEM morphologies show that with the increase in load, the worn surface of the composites with RC became more and more integrated, while the worn surface of the composite with SL/RC was worn more and more seriously.
