Abstract

Objective To develop a health protection zone standard of the vehicle-body factory and provide reference for the revision of the national standard for the automobile factory in China. Methods A representative vehicle-body factory was investigated in order to determine the characteristic pollutants and find out the health status of the residents nearby.According to the measured concentration of the characteristic pollutants and combined with the atmospheric dispersion model, the health protection zone of the vehicle-body factory was calculated.Based on the concentration of the pollutants in the air,the emission amount of pollutants was estimated by reverse calculation. Results The emitted pollutants in the Car Body factory were benzene, toluene, xylene, manganese particles, inorganic manganese compounds and other particles,in which the uncontrollable emissions were benzene series compounds and particles. The characteristic pollutants were Benzene series compounds which uncontrollable emissions amount was estimated as 1.779 88 kg/h.Conclusions A practical and feasible health protection zone for the vehicle-body factory would be recommended as 300 meters.
