The influence of lubricating methods on sterilizing effect of dental handpiece

Abstract

Objective To exlpore the influence of lubricating method on sterilizing effect of dental handpiece turbines.Method One hundred and eighty Kavo handpieces turbines were randomly divided into three groups,and were contaminated with Strephyloccus and Streptococcus.After cleaned,Handpieces in one group(A) were untreated with lubricant,and handpieces in the other two groups(B and C) were treated with lubricants by using two different methods(manual and automatic).All the handpieces were sterilized by using the method of high-pressured steamy sterilization.The colony of bacteria were counted before and after the sterilization.Result There was no significant difference among the three groups in the positive rate of Strephyloccus(P0.05).Conclusion Different lubricating methods may have no significant influence on the sterilizing effect of dental handpiece.
