Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety of perindopril and enalapril in the treatment of essential hypertension. Methods:Sixtysix cases with essential hypertension were divided randomly into two groups:perindopril and enalapril.Treatment lasted for 24 weeks.Parameters of blood pressure was measured before and after treatment. Results:Blood pressure were significantly reduced in both groups. There was no significant difference in responder rates between perindopril treated patients(89.5%)and patients taking enalapril(81.5%).The trough to peak ratios of systolic and diastolic blood pressures of perindopril were greater than that of enalapril. Conclusion:Perindoprilonce daily is effective, safe and well tolerated in hypertensihe patients.
