Abstract
Objective:To explore the effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS) for prevention of tamoxifen-induced endometrial polyp among the patients with breast cancer. Methods:One hundred and three women who took tamoxifen during perimenopausal period and menopausal period were randomly divided into two groups.Fifty-five women underwent Mirena insertion before taking tamoxifen, and the other forty-eight women were selected as control group. Before treatment and at twelve months after treatment of tamoxifen, transvaginal ultrasound was used to measure the depth of endometrium, and hysteroscope was used for pathological examination of endometrium. Results:The risk of endometrial polyp in Mirena group was significantly lower than that in control group(1.8%∶ 15.5%,P=0.02).There was no significant difference in the risk of submucosal fibroid between the two groups(1.8%∶ 3.4%,P=1.0).Conclusion:LNG-IUS can reduce the occurrence of tamoxifen-induced endometrial polyp among the patients with breast cancer.
