Abstract

Objective:To investigate the value of colour Doppler ultrasound in examination of early erosions of hand joints in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods:Wrist, metacarpophalangeal(MCP)and proximal interphalangeal(PIP)joints of 32 RA patients(704 joints)were examined by colour Doppler ultrasonography. Results: Synovitis of joints were found in 28 RA patients (210 joints), intra-articular fluid was found in 25patients (88 joints), pannus were detected in 8 patients (15 joints),periarticular inflammation tissue was detected in 5 (5 joints), and bone erosions were found in 3 (11 joints). Conclusion: Diagnosis in colour Doppler ultrasound can be reliable in examining the hand joints damage of early RA patients. It can provide a reference for clinical diagnosis of RA.
