Abstract

Removal of calcium from water was carried out using cross-linked carboxymethyl sweet potato starch. The effects of parameters such as starch substitution degree, starch dosage,pH,temperature and reaction time on removal rate of Ca2+ were studied. Epichlorohydrin used as a crosslinker, chloroacetic acid for carboxymethylation reagents, produced the cross-linked carboxymethyl sweet potato starch and used it to removal of calcium ions. The results showed the suitable adsorption condition of cross-linked carboxymethyl sweet potato starch for Ca2+ were 0.721 starch substitution degree,2% starch dosage,pH 8,30min,70℃ . Under the suitable condition, the cross-linked carboxymethyl sweet potato starch adsorption capacity for Ca2+ could reached 4.53mmol/L,the removal rate of Ca2+ reached 75.33%. The adsorption followed Langmuir isothermal adsorption equation.
