Abstract
At the beginning of the Song Dynasty,the first and the second emperors actually achieved political power by usurping the throne. They need to prove the legitimacy of the regime by making up religious prophecies. These prophecies were mostly classified as Taoist prophecy. From academic perspective,prophecy,astrology etc. can be classified to Taoism. However,in the early Song Dynasty,prophecies that made by Taoism were rarely. The government of Song Dynasty prohibited people,including Taoist priests and Buddhist monks,learning astronomy and astrology,to ensure the theocratic with in the control of the government. Most of the religious prophecies were fabricated and spread by the regime. Taoism has significance as a tool in political struggle. Taoist priest and Taoism organization does not have the ability to resist the government. They can only maintain the survival under the regime's control.
