Abstract

Objective To study the effect of iodine on thyroid autoimmune function. Methods The thyroid antoantibodies of serum of sample groups in high iodine areas, iodine deficiency areas, iodized salt supplying areas were determined. Results The positive rates of TMAb were 18.63% in high iodine area, 3.37% in iodine deficiency area, 6.25% in iodized salt supplying area, 5.17% in control area. There were significant differences between high iodine areas and other 3 areas. The positive rates of TGAb were 8.33%? 2.88%? 6.25% and 1.72% ,respectively. The positive rates was significantly higher in high iodine area than that in iodine deficiency area and control area (P0.05). The positive rates of TMAb and (or) TGAb of goiter patients were 32.11%? 4.59%? 7.41% and 0,respectively. The positive rates were significantly higher in high iodine area than that in control area (P0.05), iodine deficiency area and iodized salt supplying area (P0.01).Conclusions High iodine could lead to the rise of thyroid antoantibodies level. The present salt iodine did not lead to the disorder of thyroid function.
