Abstract
Objective To observe the curative effect of spironolactone in the treatment of elderly patients(60 years of age) with chronic heart failure. Methods The 50 patients with chronic heart failure were randomly divided into two groups, routine therapy and spironolactone(treatment group) and non spironolactone group(control group). All the patients were followed up for 6 months, compared 6 min walking distance before and after treatment, potassium, echocardiographic(left ventricular ejection fraction, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter), renal function. Results The 6 min walking distance in treatment group significantly better than control group after six months(213±21)m,(165±15),(P0.05); Serum potassium was no obvious increased(4.9±0.14) mmol/L,(4.3±0.16)mmol/L,(P0.05); Left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD) was decreased obviously(45±6)mm,(52±10)mm,(P0.05); The mortality and hospitalization rate were significantly lower in treatment group than the control group. Conclusion Spironolactone can significantly improve cardiac function in patients with heart failure, and the serum potassium is no obvious increased, safe, effective, less side effects.
