Abstract
We reviewed the studies on rotavirus(RV)published during 1979 to 2005 in China to understand the epidemiology of RV diarrhea, estimate the disease burden, and to enhance the development and implementation of RV vaccine. The results showed that the median detection rate of RV in children with diarrhea among inpatient and outpatient were 46% and 29% respectively.RV was less detected in children with diarrhea in communities (10%).A peak season of rotavirus infection was observed from October through next February.G1 serotype was the predominant strain in China overall, but G3 had been the most common type since 2001.P was the main genotype. The diversity of G-P combination indicated that it is necessary to conduct long-term rotavirus strain surveillance in China.
