Abstract

Objective:To analyze the cost-effectiveness of variable velocity and resistance muscle strength training exercise with sodium hyaluronate in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Ninety patients with knee osteoarthritis were equally divided into three groups: treatment group, physiotherapy group and control group. The patients in treatment group were treated with variable velocity and resistance muscle strength training exercise plus sodium hyaluronate injection into knee joint. The patients in physiotherapy group were subjected to comprehensive rehabilitation therapies such as paraffinotherapy, magnetotherapy and high frequency electrotherapy. The patients in control group were treated only with sodium hyaluronate injection into knee joint. Direct medical costs of each patient, and detailed buildups of every cost during the 5-week rehabilitation therapy were collected. Results: The pain of the knee joint was alleviated, the function of knee joint was improved, and peak torque on quadriceps femoris and biceps femoris and Lysholm were obviously increased in three groups after treatment (P0.05), more significantly in treatment group than other two groups (P0.05). There was no significant difference between physiotherapy group and control group. Conclusion: The rehabilitation treatment of variable velocity and resistance muscle strength training exercise with sodium hyaluronate in patients with knee osteoarthritis is economical and effective.
