Abstract

Objective To evaluate the pathogenic candida species in vulvovaginal candidiasis and analyze antifungal sensitivity in vulvovaginal candidial strains.Methods Analyze candida species and antifungal sensitivity in 390 patients with symptomatic vulvovaginal candidiasis who were culture-positive for fungi in General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University,Tianjin Central Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Tianjin Union Medicine Centre Clinic from December 2003 to December 2005.Result Candida albicans accounted for 94.4%(368/390),and non-albicans accounted for 5.6%(22/390).The antifungal sensitivity in vitro was not diffrent between C.albicans and non-albicans strains.Fluconazole sensitivity in vitro was 100% respectively.The antifungal sensitivity and pathogenic candida species were not different in patients with or without a history of VVC.Conclusion Candida albicans is still the most commonly identified species of pathogenic yeasts in VVC.Increased resistance to antifungal agents has not been observed in non-albicans strains.
