Preliminary Study on the Ornamental Characteristics of Cerasus Species

15 Cerasus ornamental species were introduced to study the flowering phenology and ornamental characteristics from Nanjing Zhongshan Botanical Garden to Zhangxi Prunus serrulata Base in Ningbo.The results showed that: in outdoor planting conditions of Ningbo,most cultivars' early florescence was from late march to mid April,individual florescence kept 12~21 d,and total flowering maintained 20~35 d.Cerasus yedoensis was the earliest blooming,Cerasus lannesiana ′Caudata′ was the last,Cerasus sargentii ′Rehder′,Cerasus sargentii and C.serrulata var.lannesiana ′Sekiyama′ were later;the flowing phenological period of C.serrulata var.lannesiana ′Sekiyama′ was the longest,Cerasus serrulata var.lannesiana ′Yaebeni-Ohshima′ took second place,Cerasus lannesiana cv.′Caudata′ was the shortest.Among the double petals cultivated varieties,Cerasus jamasakura cv.′Haguiensis′,C.serrulata var.lannesiana ′Sekiyama′,Cerasus serrulata var.lannesiana ′Yaebeni-Ohshima′ and Cerasus serrulata var.lannesiana ′Albo-rosea′ had features such as large flowers,bright colors,beautiful patterns,medium blossoming and growing much better;during single petals cultivated varieties,C.serrulata var.lannesiana ′Hisakura′,Cerasus yedoensis.′Yedoensis′ and Cerasus yedoensis were also provided with characteristics as medium blossoming,earlier blossom time and higher growth potential,so they could be spread.
