Abstract

In order to improve traffic safety of highway intersections, the diagnostic method for traffic safety problems at highway intersections is studied and the diagnostic flow of traffic safety problems is presented. The judgment criteria of conspicuity and severity of traffic safety problems are established, and the diagnosis table for traffic safety problems is designed.Main traffic safety problems at highway intersections are found by field survey and analyses, and the corresponding countermeasures are given. The concept of benefits costs ratio and its model are introduced, and the model is simplified. The countermea-sures for traffic safety problems are prioritized using simplified benefits costs ratio model, thus the priority countermeasures in engineering application could be gained. The diagnostic method and benefits costs ratio model are applied to an actual engineering example. The results indicate those can find the severe traffic safety problems, and can provide the corresponding countermeasures of high benefits costs ratio.
