Abstract
Based on Blot's consolidation theory, the finite element equation of 3-D consolidation considering unloading and water head difference between inside and outside of the foundation pit is deduced and the corresponding computational program for FEM is developed,by which the coupled effect of seepage flow and soil deformation can be analyzed. The time effects of foundation pit deformation, excess pore pressure and soil water potential are investigated. The comparison of calculation results show that the horizontal displacement of retaining structure, the ground surface settlement as well as the pit base heave all will be bigger if the water head difference is taken into account.
