Abstract

We present and discuss data on the yields of deuterons with energies from 90 to 250 MeV from nuclei bombarded by hadrons. For the reactions pA..-->..dX (at initial momentum 7.5 GeV/c) and ..pi../sup -/A..-->..dX (at initial momentum 5 GeV/c) we have measured in detail the angular dependence of the inclusive cross sections for production of deuterons from the nuclei C, Cu, Pb, and U. The range of angles was 10--160/sup 0/. The A-dependence of the deuteron yields from Be, C, Al, Ti, Fe, Cu, Nb, Cd, Sn, Ta, Pb, and U was measured in detail for initial protons with momentum 7.5 GeV/c at four emission angles 60, 90, 120, and 160/sup 0/. For the same angles we studied the dependence of the deuteron yields on the initial momentum of protons in the range 1.4--9.0 GeV/c, on the initial momenta of ..pi../sup +/ in the range 1.4--6.0 GeV/c, and of ..pi../sup -/ of 1.4 and 5.0 GeV/c. The behavior of the cross sections for production of deuterons as a function of the emission angle, the atomic weight of the target nucleus, and the initial momentum is similar in many ways to the behavior of the cross sections for production of protons;more » in particular, the same regularities of the yield with respect to scaling are characteristic for deuterons.« less
