Abstract

Functional constipation(FC)and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation(IBS-C)are 2 patterns of functional bowel disorders which present with symptoms of constipation.The symptom-based criteria for FC and IBS-C are usually confused in clinical practice.Management for IBS-C only focused on constipation symptoms could not achieve satisfactory efficacy.We try to identify the differences between FC and IBS-C from epidemiology,clinical characteristics,pathophysiology and responses to treatment in this review.
