Abstract
According to statistical and survey data from 1949 to 1998, dynamic changes of quantitative and regional differences of cultivated land in Hebei Province during the last 50 years are analysed. Based upon which, the major driving forces that influence the changes of cultivated land are discussed. The results indicated that the general trend of cultivated land during the past 50 years was decreasing and regional differences of cultivated land was very notable. Adjustments of agricultural structure, non agricultural construction, disasteruous damage and land reclamation are direct driving factors that caused cultivated land changes whereas technique advancement, driven economic benefits and agricultural policies are indirect driving factors.
