Words that are common to Hakka and one or more peripheral dialects

This paper, by consulting the existing dialectal dictionaries and conducting textual researches into the etymology of the words, has found out hundreds of words that are common to Hakka and its peripheral dialect or dialects: those that are common to Hakka and Jiangxi dialect are 189 in number, those that are common to Hakka and Fujian dialect are 189 in number, and those that are common to Hakka and Cantonese(i. e., Cuangdong dialect) axe 228 in number. It is of opinion that these findings will lay a foundation for comparative studies on the relationship among the southern dialects of the Chinese language hereafter.
