The Relationship Between Serum Level of Adiponectin and Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis

AIM To explore the relationship between the level of serum adiponectin and the severity of coronary artery atherosclerosis.METHODS According to coronary angiography and clinical manifestration,162 cases with suspected coronary heart disease were divided into groups.Fasting serum adiponectin was assayed by radioimmunoassay,and related parameters such as blood pressure,fasting blood glucose,lipids were measured.RESULTS The serum level of adiponectin in patients with definited coronary heart disease(17.21±10.67 mg·L~(-1))was decreased as compared with that in the negative controls(32.94±15.18 mg·L~(-1),P0.01).The level of adiponectin fell in parallel with the severity of coronary artery atherosclerosis in these patients.Serum adiponectin level was negatively correlated with the extent of coronary artery stenosis,the level of total cholesterol,triglyceride,lower density lipoprotein cholesterol(P0.01),while positively correlated with high density lipoprotein cholesterol(P0.05).CONCLUSION The level of serum adiponectin decrease progressively with the advancing coronary atherosclerosis,which may predicts the occurrence and development of coronary heart disease.
