Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of ultrasonography and mammography in diagnosis of breast cancer using receiver operation characteristic(ROC) curve analysis. Methods 88 patients with breast disease(38 malignant and 50 benign) were performed ultrasonography and mammography before operation. The results of two diagnosis methods were compared with those of pathology diagnosis. The diagnostic performance was evaluated by ROC curve analysis that was made with SPSS 13.0 and the values of area under the curve(AUC) were calculated. Results AUC of ultrasonography and mammography were 0.828(SE=0.045) and 0.811(SE=0.053) respectively. There were no significant differences between two diagnosis methods(Z=0.245,P0.05).Conclusion Ultrasonography and mammography were effective methods in the diagnosis of breast cancer.Ultrasonography can be regarded as a non-invasive,simple,economic and effective method for breast cancer in primary hospital.
