Abstract

Using the data from Chinese provincial newspapers and meteorological departments, the countybased spatiotemporal pattern of snow disaster in China from 1949 to 2000 is reconstructed. Analysis of spatiotemporal change of snow disaster shows that there are three heavy snow disaster areas in China: the center of Nei Monggol, north of Xinjiang and northeast of QinghaiTibet plateau. In the researched period, the range of annual amount of snow disaster changed and increased obviously. Further more, this paper also analyzes the corresponding relation between average frequency of snow disaster and degraded degree of pasture to discover the formative mechanism of the spatiotemporal pattern of snow disaster in the view of vulnerability of environment .
