Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect of Tetramethylpyrazine on apoptosis after transient retinal ischemia. Methods: A model of retinal ischemia was established by injecting saline into the anterior chamber of SD rats. Tetramethylpyrazine was given peritoneally in the treatment group once daily. The retinal apoptosis cells were detected by terminal - deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated nick end labeling ( Tunel) . Results: The number of apoptosis cells in ischemia group were significantly higher than that of the treatment group, there was significant difference between two groups at each time-point. ConclusionTetramethylpyrazine has the protective effect against apoptosis in ischemic retina.
