Expression and significance of p27 and p53 in breast cancer

Objective To study the significance of p27 and p53 expression in patients with breast cancer.Methods p27 and p53 were determined immunohistochemically from 56 patients with breast cancer and 36 patients with benign mammary tumors.Results(1) Both p27 and p53 were correlated with TNM stage.The expression of p27 was also correlated with that of p53.(2) Univariat(analysis) demonstrated that disease-free survival rate in patients with higher p27 expression was 91.9%,which was significantly higher than that in those with lower expression(42.1%).The survial rate in patients with p53 overexpression was 61.3%,which was markadly lower than that in those with low p53 expression.Conclusion Detection of the expressions of p27 and p53 has an important significance in predicting the prognosis of breast cancer.
