From Affluent Hangzhou to Poetic Hangzhou——the Literary Tradition of Hangzhou's City Image

City image is what a city presents to individuals.Since the Sui and Tang Dynasties,Hangzhou's city image has taken on two traditions: affluent Hangzhou and Hangzhou.On the one hand,the image of Hangzhou is attributed to Bai Juyi,Su Dongpo and other city designers and constructors,who built the city with poetic,aesthetic,and miniature gardening approaches.On the other hand,it is the manifestation of the poetic spirit of the Chinese scholarly culture after the Mid-Tang Dynasty,which is detached from the political world,but attached to the practical world.Hangzhou's unique wooded and hilly lands suit the poetic spirit.However,since the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the city image of affluent Hangzhou has been increasingly prominent,which calls for an urgent promotion of the city image of Hangzhou for a counterbalance.
