Abstract

According to Wang Yinzhi himself, and as is generally accepted, the language materials used in Jingzhuan Shici come from the classical works before the Western Han Dynasty. But we find through investigation a great number of language materials from the Eastern Han Dynasty in Jingzhuan Shici, especially from History of the Han Dynasty by Ban Gu(a historian in the Eastern Han Dynasty). Therefore, the temporal boundary of the language materials in Jingzhuan Shici should be the Eastern Han Dynasty, which is consistent with the affirmation of some scholars in Qing Dynasty. It is quite likely that the Chinese character for Two(meaning both Western Han and Eastern Han) was mixed up with the character for Western.
