Xu Jingheng’s Collection and Lost Articles

Having thirty volumes originally, Hengtang Anthology by Xu Jingheng got lost after the middle of the Ming Dynasty. During the period of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, when Complete Library in Four Divisions was being compiled, Xu’s lost articles found in Yongle Canon were put together and worked into twenty volumes, with quete a number of them missing, only one lost poem coming from Dong’ou Collected Poems . During the period of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, were compiling and printing Yongjia Series, the Sun father and son pointed out that there three lost poems in Dong’ou Collected Poems and Contimuation of Dong’ou Collected Poems and that there was one lost article each in Lin Biaomin’s Chicheng Anthology and Liu Anjie’s Liu Zuoshi Anthology respectively. When Complete Poems of the Song Dynasty was being compiled by the Research Institute of Ancient Books of Peking University, altogether thirteen lost poems under ten titles were found. Two lost poems compiled by Pan Mengbu . Besides, there are three lost articles in Luan Guiming’s Supplementary Amplifications of the Individual Collection of a Book Compiled from Complete Library in Four Divisions. Today I have found a lost poem Passing the Xianxin Temple in Continuation of Dong’ou Collected Poems , a lost Funeral Oration for Liu Zuoshi in Liu Zuoshi Anthology and a lost Inscription on Retired Scholar Lin’s Tomb Tablet in Volume by Natives, Yongjia Anthology. However, there are still many lost articles or poems which can be found in other books.
