Feature analysis of Voluntary Unpaid Blood Donors in Yangzhong City

[Objective] To describe the characteristics of voluntary unpaid blood donors in Yangzhong County of Jiangsu Province,and provide scientific evidence for promoting the progress of voluntary blood donation healthy,quickly and continuously.[Methods]Voluntary blood donors registered in Yangzhong blood collection site of Zhenjiang Blood Center since 2007-2011 were selected as the study subjects.The characteristics of these blood donors were analyzed.[Results] During recent 5 years,there were 8 924 times of voluntary unpaid blood donation registered in the study site,with the cumulative blood volume of 2 847 270 ml.Most of them(78.9%) donated 300 ml blood for each time.There were 4 577(51.3%) male donors and 4 187(48.7%) female donors.The median of age was 36 years(minimum age: 18 years;maximum age: 57 years).The number of blood donors decreased significantly with the increase of age among those aged over 40 years.The number of voluntary blood donors varied seasonally and there were fewer donors during the spring or winter.Local residents accounted for a large part of the donors(85.9%).Among them,38.9% had junior high school or lower education history,29.9% had senior high school education history,and 31.2% had junior college or over education history.[Conclusion]Analysis of the characteristics of blood donors is useful for establishing and implementing specific strategies to advocate voluntary blood donation.
