Abstract
AIM: To compare the efficacy and safety of gatifloxacin with levofloxacin in the treatment of urinary tract infections. METHODS: Using levofloxacin as a contrast medicine, 48 patients were enrolled to carry out arandomized, double simulation, double blind, parallel controlled trial (n=24) group A was given gatifloxacin 400 mg, qd, for 7-14 d group B (n=24) was given levofloxacin 400 mg, qd, for 7-14 d. RESULTS: The clinical cured rate and effective rate in group A were 100 % and 100 % respectively, and thoses in group B were 92 % and 92 %, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the two groups (P0.05). The bacterial clearance rate was 100 % in two groups, and that was also no significant difference (P0.05). The adverse reaction rates were 8 % and 12 % respectively in group A and B without statistical difference (P0.05). CONCLUSION: The efficacy and safety of gatifloxacin is similar to those of levofloxacin for treatment of urinary tract infections.
