Abstract

OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents of Aeschynanthus superbus Clarke.METHODS Column chromatographic techniques were applied to isolate the constituents.EI-MS and NMR were used to identify the structures of the separated compounds.RESULTS Nine compounds were isolated from the methyl hydroxide extract of A.superbus, whose structures were elucidated as β-sitosterol(1),lupeol(2),carissol(3),3β-hydroxy-20(29)-lupen-28-oic acid(4),3-hydroxy-5,12-oleanadien-28-oic-acid(5),apigenin(6),5,7,4'-trihydroxy-6-methoxyflavone(7),ursolic acid(8) and β-daucosterol(9).CONCLUSION Compounds 1-9 are isolated for the first time from this plant.Compounds 2-7 are isolated for the first time from Gesneriaceae, and compounds 8-9 are isolated for the first time from the Aeschynanthus.
