Abstract
Development of a curved surface is a new tool for CAD/CAGD(Computer Assisted Geometric Design).The definition and the deformations of planar development of a curved surface are presented in this paper.Then several planar development methods of curved surface,their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed.For NURBS surface is widely used in CAGD,a new planar developing algorithm is put forward,hybrid development,and its algorithm is given.Using this algorithm the distortions of development are reduced.At last we give an example to validate this algorithm.
