Abstract

Based on unsaturated soil water movement theory, the mathematical model of one-dimensional vertical infiltration was investigated and the simulation of infiltration characteristics of various typical soils with different initial water content was performed. The result showed that the variation of cumulative infiltration would be consistent with the Philip model.A determination method of Philip model parameters such as initial water content, saturated water content and saturated hydraulic conductivity was presented. The model was verified by the data in the literatures available. It was shown that the established model was able to determine readily the soil absorptivity and steady infiltration rate, reflecting more accurately the characteristics of one-dimensional vertical infiltration.
