Abstract

The allelopathic effect of aqueous extracts from Parthenium hysterophorus on the seed germination and seedling growth of Cucurbita moschata was studied in this paper. The main results were as follows:1)The aqueous extracts from Parthenium hysterophorus L obviously restrained the seed germination of Cucurbita moschata and this inhibition became strong as the concentration of extractions from leaves, roots and the whole plants increased;2)The aqueous extracts promoted the root length in some extends, while the extracts from leaves, roots and the whole plants inhibited the seedling height with increased intensity with increased extract concentration;3)The restraining influences of aqueous extract from leaves were stronger than those from else part of Parthenium hysterophorus.
