Abstract
Aim: To investigate the protective effects of cranial mild-moderate hypothermia on the ischemic brain tissues. Methods:The rat heads were placed in hypothermia conditions(15~20℃) for 24 hours after global brain ischemia. The comparison was made respectively in observation group, normal temperature group and control group for changes of body temperature, water content of brain tissues, neuron counts in hippocampi and tissue morphology. Results:The reduced range in body temperature and neuron counts in observation group was greater, and water content of brain tissues was significantly lower than those in normal temperature and control groups. Conclusion:Cranial mild-moderate hypothermia can significantly reduce the body temperature and water content of brain tissues so as to protect the ischemic brain tissues.
