Abstract
The geochemical method of total hydrocarbon can deal with complicated genesis and source of hydrocarbon, provide evidences of migration, preservation and redistribution, define hydrocarbon accumulation history and process, and thereby effectively guide hydrocarbon exploration. As the deepening of light hydrocarbon study, light hydrocarbon technique plays an increasingly important role in geochemical analysis of total hydrocarbon. This paper summarizes the results of previous studies, and illustrates the application of light hydrocarbon parameters in diagnosing parent material and environment, assuming the thermal evolution degree of organic matter, performing oil and source rock correlation, probing into hydrocarbon migration direction and phase types, and identifying hydrocarbon preservation conditions.
