Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of the glaucoma drainage implant for ocular traumatic patients who have undergone pars plana vitrectomy. Methods 15 cases(15 eyes) with traumatic glaucoma who undergone a glaucoma drainage implant after pars plana vitrectomy were evaluated retrospectively. The visual acuity, intraocular pressure and postoperative complications were observed comparatively. Results 13 eyes were followed up for 14.9 months(6 to 25 months),1 eye was performed enucleation and 1 eye evisceration at 1 month and 2 months postoperatively. The postoperative best corrected visual acuities were stable in 8 eyes, dropped in 3 eyes and improved in 4 eyes.Postoperatively, the mean intraocular pressure at 1 week and 1 month reduced to(10.82±1.41)mmHg and(13.56+3.82)mmHg respectively, at 6 and 25 months were(16.02+5.17) mmHg and(17.23±3.82)mmHg.At the final postoperative visit,6 eyes achieved a normal intraocular pressure, and 4 eyes kept normal by using antiglaucoma eye drops. The successful rate was 66.7%.The mainly complications were hyphema, ocular hypotension and choroidal detachment. Conclusion It suggests that glaucoma drainage implants is a safe and effective therapeutic modality for the traumatic glaucoma after pars plana vitrectomy.
