Abstract
Objective To summarize the early experience of modified NUSS procedure assisted with thoracoscope for the repair of pectus excavatum in patients. Methods 10 cases of pectus excavatum were treated by modified NUSS procedure assisted with thoracoscope from August 2008 to September 2010.Results The operation in all patients were successful. The average blood loss was less than 10ml.Pneumothorax and pleural effusion occurred in 1 patient respectively after operation, which were resolved by corresponding treatments. The average hospital length of stay was 8.4 days. All patients had a satisfactory deformity correction.Therapeutic results were evaluated as excellent in 9 patients and good in 1 patient. All patients were followed up for 1~30 months without any complaints. No bar displacement and injury event occurred. Conclusion Modified NUSS procedure is easy to be performed with minimal invasion and good short-term results.Thoracoscopic visualization facilitates the safety of the technique. It is worth to be recommended as a reliable procedure.
