Abstract
Objective To perform a combined detection of serum creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and AST/ALT ratio in schizophrenia and to explore its clinical significance. Methods The serum CK, AST and ALT levels of 233 first-visit male patients with schizophrenia were determined on the next day after admission, and the AST, ALT results in three CK level distribution groups(200, 200-1 000, 1 000 U/L)were compared. 196 schizophrenic hospitalized patients with abnormal liver enzyme combination of AST, ALT(AST or/and ALT40 U/L)were selected for CK detection and the AST/ALT ratio in three CK level distribution groups (200, 200-1 000, 1 000 U/L)were compared. Results The serum AST, ALT levels (mean±s) increased in schizophrenia to some extent together with CK, and each showed a significant difference (P0.001) in three CK level distribution groups. In schizophrenic hospitalized patients with abnormal liver enzyme combination of AST, ALT and the AST/ALT ratio showed a significant difference (P0.001) in three CK level distribution groups and a significant positive correlation (r=0.621,P0.001) among three CK levels. Conclusion The combined detection of serum CK, AST, ALT and AST/ALT ratio may be of value for differential diagnosis of liver diseases in patients with schizophrenia.
