Abstract
In the Jiyang depression, the main Carboniferous-Permian hydrocarbon source rocks are coals and dark mudstones. In this paper, the organic geochemical characteristics of the hydrocarbon source rocks are described in detail in the light of the abundance, type and maturity of organic matter. Organic matter is high in abundance, the TOC of coal is above 50% and that of dark mudstones varies between 0.6% and 1.5%. The source type of organic matter is poor, belonging to Ⅲ-type kerogens. All the Carboniferous-Permian strata exist in a maturation or over-maturation stage, with Ro values varying between 0.6% and 1%. The analysis indicates that coal is a better to best hydrocarbon source rock, while dark mudstone is moderately good.
