The influence on corneal curvature,thickness and endothelium after treatment of orthokeratology

Abstract

Objective To observe the influence on corneal morphology and metabolic function after treatment by orthokeratology.Methods Randomly selected 60 cases of true myopia patients wearing orthokeratology lens,age between 8-12 years,the myopia between-0.75 DS to-3.50 DS(Astigmatism into balls calculation),to check the curvature of the cornea,the thickness and endothelium before wearing glasses,wearing glasses one week,one month,three months,six months.Took only the right-eye data for statistical analysis of repeatability variance analysis.Results The curvature of the patient's cornea and central corneal thickness flattened apparent in the first three months,later stabilized.The difference was statistically significant(P 0.05).The average area of the corneal endothelial cells and cell coefficient of variation had no significant increase in the microscopic examination of the corneal endothelium,and the corneal endothelial cells hexagon ratio had no significantly lower(P 0.05).Conclusion Major changes in corneal curvature and thickness after treatment of orthokeratology is between first three months,later tends stable.Long-term wear orthokeratology lens corneal endothelial count is in the normal range,shows small impact on corneal metabolism.This shows that orthokeratology lens is used to control the development of myopia is safe and effective in the long run.
