Abstract

Objective To summarize the methods and results of supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children with percutaneous pinning. Methods From January 2001 to November 2004,24 cases of the fractures were treated by closed reduction and percutaneous crossed-pin fixation or percutaneous two-pins fixation from external condyle in 45 and 60 angle under image intensifier. Results Twenty-four cases had follow-up of 3~24 months, with an average of 12 months. One case had cubitus varus in 10 degrees. An average of the carrying angle is 12 degrees in 23 cases. An average of the elbow stretch and bend is 6 degrees and 128 degrees individually. There were no patient with ulnar nerve damage in operation, or Volkman' s contracture at follow-up evaluation. Conclusion Percutaneous pinning is effective treatment for of supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children with the advantages of nice stability, less wound and complication, rapid rehabilitation of the function of the elbow.
